Student Workshop Offerings

."Stress Less" Workshop

Who: Students currently in 5th or 6th Grade; 10-12 students will be chosen by lottery, per group. ALL students are welcome and encouraged to participate.

What: “Stress-Less” Workshop

When: During your child’s Workshop period, twice per 6-day rotation. The workshop will meet 10 times and will be scheduled so that it does not interfere with ensemble or health. Multiple Workshops will be run throughout the year.

Why: The “Stress-Less” Workshop will provide an opportunity for students to learn skills to help with attention, stress management, anxiety reduction, emotion regulation, and academic performance. Topics in this workshop will include…

  • How our thoughts, emotions, and actions are connected.

  • Strategies to manage stress and other difficult emotions.

  • How to show gratitude and the effects of positive thinking.

  • How to be present, and attentive in school and throughout our lives.

.Assertive Communication Team (ACT)

Who: Students currently in 6th Grade; 10-12 students will be chosen by lottery, per group. ALL students are welcome and encouraged to participate.

What: “Assertive Communication Team” Workshop

When: During your child’s Workshop period, twice per 6-day rotation. The workshop will meet 10 times and will be scheduled so that it does not interfere with ensemble or health. Multiple Workshops will be run throughout the year.

Why: Communication and collaboration are 21st century skills that are essential to student success. The Assertive Communication Team is a Workshop for sixth grade students which focuses on enhancing interpersonal skills. Topics will include...

  • How to effectively regulate emotions.

  • How to ask for what you want/need.

  • Assertiveness skills and how to say “no” when needed.

  • How to cope with interpersonal conflict and maintain positive relationships.

.Wellness Workshop

Who:  Students currently in 6th Grade; 10-12 students will be chosen by lottery, per group. ALL students are welcome and encouraged to participate. “Stress Less Workshop” is a prerequisite for this Workshop. If your child hasn’t yet participated in Stress Less Workshop, you may still sign them up for Wellness Workshop, and they will be entered into the lottery once they’ve participated in Stress Less.

What: Wellness Workshop

When: During your child’s Workshop period, twice per 6-day rotation. The workshop will meet 10 times and will be scheduled so that it does not interfere with ensemble or health. Multiple Workshops will be run throughout the year.

Why: Research demonstrates that emotional intelligence skills are essential to better academic performance, better relationships, greater empathy, better decision making, and better physical and mental health. This Workshop will focus primarily on emotion regulation, one of the skills of EI. Topics in this Workshop will include...  

  • How to recognize, understand, label, express, and regulate emotions.

  • “Thought” and “Action” strategies for managing difficult emotions.

  • How to be present, and attentive in school and throughout our lives.

  • Strategies for a healthy lifestyle to reduce emotional vulnerability.
