Thursday of this past week was a very busy day for the South School community as we hosted both the PTC Welcome Back Coffee at Waveny House on Thursday morning and our annual Open House Evening for parents and guardians of students in Kindergarten, Grade1 and Grade 2.  It was so wonderful to have our first Welcome Back Coffee in person since 2019 and several hundred parents filled Waveny House to socialize, sign up for committee work, enjoy some refreshments and hear Superintendent Bryan Luizzi, Principal Matt Kascak, and Assistant Principal Zoe Robinson share welcoming greetings and comments before the PTC carried on with their regular first business meeting of the school year.

On Thursday evening, many of those parents and guardians along with others turned out enmasse to attend their children’s teacher’s Open House presentation in our three primary grades. In between the first session for Grades K and 2, many of our specialists, curriculum and student support professionals were available to meet with parents and guardians in the gym.  The evening finished with presentations for our Grade 1 parents and guardians.  As our guests left the building, we are pleased and proud to hear so many wonderful comments and compliments from the parents and guardians. Our third and fourth grade teachers will present their Open House Programs next Thursday evening.  Finally, we would like to thank the PTC Teacher Appreciation Committee for providing a wonderful dinner for our staff who stayed through from the end of the school day right through the Open House presentations!

Thank you to our South School PTC for purchasing two new vinyl banners for our campus that promote the RULER Program’s and our new school motto, “Be Your Best Self.”  You can see that one of these banners is posted on the lower playground and at the front of the building as a reminder to our students to choose words and actions that reflect their best selves as they move throughout each day!
