South School Wins First Place in 2025 Educational Access Awareness Awards

New Canaan, CT (June 13, 2025) – The South School TV Broadcast Crew has taken first place in the Elementary School – News Show category of the 2025 Access Awareness Awards, a video production competition sponsored by the Area 9 Cable Council (A9CC) and Altice of CT. Their winning segment, “SSTV Friday Morning News,” was produced under the guidance of instructor Ronna Van Veghel and recognized for excellence in student-led storytelling and production. The Access Awareness Awards (AAA) honor original student video productions aired on Altice’s Educational Access Channel 78 throughout the school year. Each year, students from across Fairfield County submit creative, informative, and inspiring videos that reflect their school communities. Categories span all grade levels and formats, from documentaries to animation, news shows, public service announcements, and more.

This year’s competition included submissions from schools throughout the county, with the top three videos in each category advancing to the final round. South School’s morning broadcast stood out among entries from across the region for its creativity, professionalism, and ability to engage its school community.

As a first-place winner, South School will receive an “Eddy” trophy, along with medals for the students who participated in the project. The recognition highlights the value of educational video production programs and the impact they have on developing student voice, collaboration, and media literacy.
