Did you know there are ways to free earn graduate school credit toward salary advancement without being enrolled in a graduate school program?

Our contract provides for New Canaan teachers to earn PRAC credits. PRAC stands for Professionally Related Activities Credit. Sometimes you might wish to study something for which there is no graduate class available. There is a way for you to put your own class together and earn graduate equivalent credit for it. These credits, known as PRAC credits, have been awarded to staff members for self-study programs they have put together. You must apply for these credits in advance and have your program approved. The application form for this is available on the website.

Others courses, such as the ones on this website, have been organized by district personnel for a number of staff members to participate in at one time. These courses require completion of a final product, the application of that product in your classroom, reflection on its implementation, and sharing of your new learning. Once the process is reviewed, a determination will be made as to whether credit is awarded. Please note there is a maximum of 15 PRAC credits that may be applied toward advancement on the salary scale. For more information on PRAC credit, consult your contract or Garry Kass's office.
