Don't Miss it! The NCHS Annual Collaboration Concert , Feb 7th @ 7pm

The New Canaan High School band, choir and orchestra programs will perform a collaborative concert in the NCHS auditorium on Tuesday, February 7 at 7:00pm . NCHS Music teachers Leo Ficks, Sarah Gleason and Barry Zhou have been working with their students during the past month preparing for this concert that will feature over 100 of our high school musicians. Although each group performs regularly throughout each school year, they always look forward to joining forces in this annual celebration of collaborative music-making.

This year, the finale piece will be two movements of the well-known Carmina Burana by Carl Orff, which has been a favorite of students and audience members since the last performance in 2019. Also featured is a collaboration between the band and orchestra, titled Cumberland Cross.
The chamber orchestra has been working with Mrs. Sarah Gleason and the choir members to present Meet Me Here , one movement from the Grammy-nominated oratorio Considering Matthew Shepherd , a compassionate and powerful musical response to the 1998 murder of Matthew Shepherd. The NCHS Concert Choir will follow this piece with the hopeful tribute, I’ll Be On My Way by Shawn Kirchner.

The band students under Mr. Barry Zhou’s direction will perform A Disneyland Celebration, a medley of Disney favorites to build excitement for our upcoming trip. Mr. Ficks will lead his orchestra students performing Fingal’s Rock by Felix Mendelsson arranged by Kathryn Griesinger. It is a rock setting of Mendelssohn’s Hebrides Overture.

Please join the NCHS Music Department to celebrate the talent and hard work of these student musicians!
