STUDENTS

Who are we? We are students in grades 5 through 8 who are interested in the world. We want to fly and build and dream and do things that most people think are not doable. Some things we have access to are 3D printers, robot parts, powerful computers, flight simulators, and professional software programs. Our teacher thinks it is fun to learn new things and encourages us to dream big and never give up.

TEACHER

I am the STEM ROOM teacher. Our formal classes include; Vex Robotics, students design, build, and code a robot, Autodesk Inventor, a 3D modeling program, and MIT Apps inventor, a program for students to learn to code apps for Android devices.

Students also come to the STEM ROOM to design, invent and build.

This is a space where students can build on an idea with other students or consult with an adult who has some expertise in a specific area. We have recruited community members to come in and work with students on particular projects.

We have also join forces with outside entities to enhance student experiences. Our students have helped design a base for flight simulators for STEM Pilot, collaborated with The Old Rhinebeck Aerodrome to restore a 1917 Albatros D.Va aircraft, and had a fundraiser for a playground in Nambale, Kenya.

Our students never give up, even when they move to the high school. Our students won a grant to put solar panels in the high school to power student devices with the sun. A project that they will continue for the middle school.

Currently students are working on an interactive painting, drones, game design, coding and a host of other ideas that are exclusively their own.  I am not only the teacher in this room; I am also a learner. I learn new things every day from the wonderful growing minds of the people I call my students.
