Thanks to new legislation effective July 1, 2019, Boards of Education are no longer required to wait until April 1 to set a firm high school graduation date. Instead, the new law allows a board to establish a firm graduation date at any time of the school year as long as it is no earlier than the 180th day of the board-adopted school calendar for that year. As we turn back the clocks in preparation for winter, we thought it a good idea to move now to establish the graduation date for the class of 2020 on the 180th day of school in June. Therefore, there is an action item on the agenda to establish Monday, June 15, 2020, as the graduation date for the class of 2020, and to use Tuesday, June 16, 2020 as a rain date. We hope establishing the date so early in the year will be helpful for families and friends to plan in advance when spring arrives.
