Mid-Term Exam Update

Dear NCHS Family,

Welcome back and Happy New Year!  It was great to have everyone back in the building today.  School is so much better when we are together.  However, we currently have a significant number of absences and anticipate the next few weeks will be unpredictable, to say the least.  After discussions with department chairs, administrators, and school leaders, we have decided not to administer mid-term exams this year. We hope this will help to alleviate some of the stress.  The second quarter will continue through January 20th (January 12th will be a Day E and continue accordingly);  the new semester will begin on Friday, January 21st, a Day F.  The first-semester grade calculation will be 50% for quarter 1 and 50% for quarter 2.

In order to provide time for students to meet with their teachers at the conclusion of the semester,  Thursday, January 20th (all classes will meet) will be a half-day ending at 11:30 (a special schedule will follow).  If students need to discuss the semester, please reach out to your teacher as they will be holding open office hours after 11:30.  January 21st, Day F, will be the start of the second semester.

Please note that buses will run at their regular times after 2:05 pm; there will be no special bus after early dismissal.

Due to the spike in community transmission, we anticipate the next month to be disrupted. With your help and support, we will continue with mitigation strategies to minimize illness.  In the upcoming weeks, many classes will likely give scheduled end-of-quarter tests.  As has been our practice over the past few years, if students have more than two tests in a day, they can discuss with their teachers and ask to move one of the tests, so they feel best prepared.

Please feel free to reach out to teachers, counselors, or administrators if you have any questions or concerns. The school is here to help.

Best,

Bill Egan
