Robert Rousseau named Pre-K to 4 Special Ed Administrator
Robert Rousseau named New Canaan Public School's
Elementary School Special Education Administrator
New Canaan Public Schools Superintendent Dr. Bryan Luizzi is pleased to announce the appointment of Robert Rousseau as the new Elementary School Special Education Administrator for grades Pre-K to 4.
“Robert Rousseau brings over two decades of experience as a school psychologist to New Canaan Public Schools,” said Dr. Luizzi, “and we are fortunate to have someone with his extensive background administrating our Pre-K through Grade 4 Special Education program.” In making the announcement, Dr. Luizzi thanked the teachers and administrators, including representatives from all three elementary schools, for their excellent work as the interview committee.
In his new position, Mr. Rousseau (pictured) will lead district-wide design, development and delivery of special education programs and services appropriate for PreK-4 students with disabilities. He will assist with staffing, budgeting, data collecting and reporting, staff development, program implementation and evaluation for identified special education programs. He will also coordinate special education compliance for East, South and West Elementary Schools.
Prior to joining New Canaan Public Schools, Mr. Rousseau served as Co-Coordinator of the Special Education Department at Newtown Middle School (NMS), a position he had held since 2003. He also served as NMS's School Psychologist, where he has coordinated, chaired, and/or facilitated PPT, 504, and Scientific Research-Based Intervention (SRBI) teams. Before that, Mr. Rousseau was a School Psychologist at Great Oak Middle School in Oxford, Connecticut, an educational assistant at Blythedale Children's Hospital in Valhalla, New York, and a Counselor and Case Manager at Search for Change in Larchmont, and Mahopac, New York.
Mr. Rousseau earned his BA in Psychology from Iona College. He received his MS Ed and Professional Certificate in School Psychology (CAS) from Queens College, and his CAGS in Advanced Educational Leadership from University of New England. Mr. Rousseau is also recipient of the Connecticut Association of School Psychologists Distinguished Service Award.
