We have many East community events underway! Read on!
Community Service Continues @ East - The “Souper Bowl”!
Our annual SOUPER Bowl Collection to benefit the Person-to-Person organization begins this Friday, February 5th (just in time for other Super Bowl excitement). Students are invited to bring one or two cans of hearty soup to donate through next Thursday, February 11th. Collection boxes will be at the drop-off / front entrance and bus entrance doors. Thank you for helping our children be aware of the needs of others and ways that they can make a difference in the community.
Reminder: Valentines @ East!
Please note carefully the procedures and dates for Valentines to be brought to school:
Students are invited to bring Valentines to school for classmates (paper Valentines only) on Friday, Feb. 5th or Monday, Feb. 8th.
A Valentine should be brought in for each classmate.
Students will place a Valentine into an individual bag for each classmate in the classroom so each classmate will have their own bag of Valentines. Those Valentines will remain in the bags until Thursday, February 11th.
Students will be able to open their bags of Valentines and take them home on Thursday, Feb 11th, our last day of school before the February vacation.
(Please note that Valentines from home must be brought in no later than February 8th to be distributed to classmates.)
Reminder: East School Science Fair!
East School is hosting its annual SCIENCE FAIR this Saturday, February 6th at 10am. This will be a virtual science fair via Flipgrid and will remain live for families to view for one week. We are excited to see the learning and ideas from our young East scientists!
From Nurse Buckner and Mr. Sangalli
If your child has an injury and is not able to fully participate in PE or recess, a doctor’s note that states these limits explicitly and also indicates a return to play date or a next visit date is required. Thank you for your cooperation and communication with regard to any injuries.
If you are dropping off your child, please plan to arrive by 9:00AM. We have seen an increase in cars pulling in after 9:05 and this makes it challenging for children to start with their classmates and teacher as a classroom community. Also, our staffing available to assist at the drop-off platform have instructional roles and so are not available to assist those arriving late.
If you are planning to travel to a state noted on the Connecticut Travel Advisory list over any weekend or the February vacation week, we encourage you to communicate with East staff prior to vacation. A quarantine period of 10 days following travel or documentation of negative COVID testing results is required based on the most recent CDC guidelines. Note that a rapid COVID test is now accepted in the State of Connecticut (for the purposes of testing out of a travel quarantine only). Classroom teachers can provide the remote learning link to students who need to quarantine due to travel or while they are awaiting testing results, but it is helpful for teachers to be aware of the need for remote learning ahead of time to ensure that students have their devices, core materials, and access to the link. Also, our nurse, Liz Buckner, can assist families in finding testing locations ahead of travel to ensure a prompt COVID test for students returning from travel.
***Please note that international travel requires a mandatory 7-day quarantine period (COVID testing is recommended but optional upon returning from international travel; negative testing results would not, however, eliminate the mandatory 7-day international quarantine).
