We have several wonderful East community events coming up - read on for more details!
East Community Service Project - Kids Heart Challenge!
Yesterday, we shared information about the Kids Heart Challenge Community Service Project at East School that will kick-off this Friday afternoon. This event is intended to raise our students’ awareness of organizations that support others and ways that they can make a difference in the world. The Kids Heart Challenge is sponsored by the American Heart Association; the East PTC has made a donation to the American Heart Association to fund research and support others who have heart illnesses. Our students are asked to participate in the Kids Heart Challenge as part of this community service endeavor to learn about heart health and take action to keep themselves and their families heart-healthy!
Stay tuned for a link this Friday, November 6th, to the Jump Rope Obstacle Course Challenge from Mr. Sangalli and be sure to post a video of your child’s obstacle course to the Flip Grid by Sunday, November 8th at 4PM. (Click HERE to link to the flyer sent yesterday with all of the details.) Then take a look on Flip Grid Sunday night at what other families have created, too! Remember, all obstacle courses must include jumping rope as a heart-healthy activity. Thanks to the East PTC, jump ropes were sent home in backpacks with each student on Wednesday this week.
In the week ahead, please encourage your child to listen for the daily Morning Announcement Heart Health tips and recess challenges as East School continues to build awareness about ways we can make a difference for others.
Veterans Day @ East School
Each year on Veterans Day, we take time at East School to show our respect and gratitude to the Veterans of the United States Armed Forces. We use this opportunity to educate our students about the history of Veterans Day and the important contribution and courage of Veterans to our country and the freedoms that we hold here. This year, our Veterans Day presentation will be in a virtual format, capturing student speakers, music, and photos of Veterans of families in our East School Community. All classes will view this presentation in their classrooms at East on November 11th; we will also make the link available on our East School website (www.ncps-k12.org/east ) that day for families to view together as well. Thank you to all who have shared photos of family members who have served in the Armed Forces; we honor them all.
The New Circle near the playground is closed throughout the day to all cars; this is a space used by students at recess times so we ask for your cooperation in not driving past the cones and road barriers placed at the New Circle entrance during the day. Our campus monitor will open the New Circle after 2:45 to allow cars to line up for dismissal and alleviate traffic on Little Brook Road but please do not enter prior to that time. This is for the safety of our staff and students. Thank you!
As we approach fall and winter holidays, we ask that families please remain aware of states that are on the Connecticut travel advisory list and note the health protocols that must be followed for students to return to school after visiting one of these states as outlined in Dr. Luizzi’s email communication to families on October 21, 2020.
Please note that early pick-ups are permitted only for emergency situations and should not be recurring. This allows us to minimize disruption to instructional time and supports the structures for health and safety that we have in place in the building for all.
When dropping off your child in the morning, we ask for your patience in the drop-off line. Unless there is an extenuating circumstance requiring assistance, please do not park and walk through the parking lot with your child. This is for the safety of all.
To address questions regarding the criteria for students to return to school following illness, please refer to Addendum 5 provided on the NCPS Charting Our Course website (page 2 of the Addendum presents a chart for reference).
If a technology issue arises for your child, please send an email to the district technology support staff using the email address: email@example.com . Classroom teachers are teaching throughout the day and are not able to respond to emails in the moment to troubleshoot technology issues.
