What's Happening @ East? October 29, 2020

October 29, 2020

Dear Parent(s) or Guardian:

Tomorrow is CRAZY HAIR DAY at East! All students are invited to come to school on Friday, October 30th, wearing Halloween colors and some fun, creative CRAZY HAIR! This could be a crazy hairstyle (spiky hair, multiple pigtails, just-got-out-of-bed hair, and more), a colorful hairstyle, or hair accessories that sparkle, shine, or are simply fun!

What’s Happening in Music?

Music class at East has a new look this year! Students at East have been learning how to compose music using Chrome Music Lab. Here are some of the projects the students have been working on recently.

A Message From the Nurse

We continue to stay focused on the health and safety measures we have in place in our schools. As we continue to work with our students to maintain social distancing to the extent possible throughout the day, the following mitigation factors are also important to keep us all safe:

  1. Self monitor for symptoms and check your child’s temperature before school.

  2. Have your child stay home if he or she is not feeling well.

  3. Ensure your child’s mask fits properly. It should fit snugly and cover the nose and mouth.

  4. Maintain social distance as much as possible.

  5. Wash hands frequently.

  6. Remind your child to not touch his or her face or mask.

  7. Get a flu shot.

If your child does become sick at school it is important that they be picked up promptly. If you will not be available to pick up your child please be sure to have an alternate plan in place. In order to maintain safety and social distancing, the nurses’ offices are not able to have students wait for extended periods of time.

Gentle Reminders

  • Please note that early pick-ups are permitted only for emergency situations and should not be recurring. This allows us to minimize disruption to instructional time and supports the structures for health and safety that we have in place in the building for all.
  • To address questions regarding the criteria for students to return to school following illness, please refer to Addendum 5 provided on the NCPS Charting Our Course website (page 2 of the Addendum presents a chart for reference).

  • At arrival, please have your child’s mask on prior to pulling up to the entrance platform where cars unload and please ensure that your child is ready to exit the car promptly (backpack close by, etc.). This will allow us to continue the flow of traffic in the morning.

  • If a technology issue arises for your child, please send an email to the district technology support staff using the email address: studenthelpdesk@ncps-k12.org . Classroom teachers are teaching throughout the day and are not able to respond to emails in the moment to troubleshoot technology issues.
