As we continue to move forward with teaching and learning in our classrooms (in-person and remotely), we wanted to share a glimpse of the work that is happening. At times, we will highlight grade level curriculum units of study (reading, writing, math, social studies, science, Spanish). At other times, we will highlight the engagement and growth of our students in our specials programs (art, music, physical education, science, library media, and ICT-technology). Read on this week as we take a closer look at what’s happening in ART!
Spotlight on Art!
Mrs. Smith and Ms. Zeiss have launched the year in classrooms with some beautiful artwork full of color and texture. It is so refreshing to see the artwork on the walls of East and we wanted to share that beauty with you at home. Click on each link below for more information about the learning being undertaken in each grade level as these young artists are at work!
Each child has been assigned a set of headphones for use in school and at home. Please help your child take good care of these headphones as they travel to and from school. We have a limited supply.
In the event that a headset is lost or broken, we will do our best to provide a replacement, but supplies are limited. If this occurs, your child should notify their classroom teacher, who will obtain a replacement set for the student from the NCPS technology department. When supplies run out, we will need to ask families to provide their own replacement. Please help your child take good care of these devices. Some families may opt to keep them in the classroom and use personal headsets while at home.
As noted in the communication regarding technology earlier this week, please make sure that your child plugs in their iPad or Chromebook each night, and that they bring them to school fully charged and ready for use. We do not have the ability to provide students with “loaner” devices, so it is important that students have their device ready for use each day.
When dropping off your child in the morning, we ask for your patience in the drop-off line. Unless there is an extenuating circumstance requiring assistance, please do not park and walk through the parking lot with your child. This is for the safety of all.
If you arrive early for pick-up (we appreciate your patience), we encourage you to turn off your car while waiting in your car to avoid idling for long periods of time. Thank you!
To address questions regarding the criteria for students to return to school following illness, please refer to Addendum 5 provided on the NCPS Charting Our Course website (page 2 of the Addendum presents a chart for reference).
If your child is sick, has rested for 24 hours, and is moving to temporary remote learning while symptoms are monitored or resolving, the office must be notified by 8AM of the temporary remote learning request.
At arrival, please have your child’s mask on prior to pulling up to the entrance platform where cars unload and please ensure that your child is ready to exit the car promptly (backpack close by, etc.). This will allow us to continue the flow of traffic in the morning.
If a technology issue arises for your child, please send an email to the district technology support staff using the email address: email@example.com . Classroom teachers are teaching throughout the day and are not able to respond to emails in the moment to troubleshoot technology issues.
