New Canaan Public Schools Superintendent Dr. Bryan Luizzi is pleased to announce the appointment of Tammy Hartman, Ph.D., as New Canaan High School’s new Special Education Administrator. In making the announcement, Dr. Luizzi thanked the 15-member search committee, which included administrators, counselors, teachers, nursing staff, and a NCHS parent, for their excellent work.

 

In her new position, effective July 1, 2019, Dr. Hartman will coordinate special education and will serve as administrator for the special education programs at NCHS. Under the direction of the Director of Pupil and Family Services, she will assist with staffing, budgeting, data collection and reporting, staff development, and program implementation and evaluation for identified special education programs.

 

Dr. Hartman is currently Coordinator of Psychological Services for Ridgefield Public Schools. In that role, she supervises the special education staff district-wide, consults with staff on students regarding ages 3-21 special education process and procedures, and serves as the district representative at PPTs with attorneys. She is also Preschool Program Director at Ridgefield and chairs all PreK PPTs and curriculum development and supervises and evaluates PreK special education staff.

 

Dr. Hartman earned her BA in Psychology from the University of Maine, her Masters in School Psychology and CT Administrators Certificate from Southern CT State University, and her Doctor of Philosophy in Educational Psychology from Capella University in Minnesota. Among the organizations she is involved with are the National Association for the Education of Young People, both the Connecticut and National Associations of School Psychologist, and the American Psychological Association.
