Vanessa Visners named Special Education Administrator for Saxe Middle School


Vanessa Visners New Canaan Public Schools Superintendent Dr. Bryan Luizzi is pleased to announce the appointment of Vanessa Visners as the new Special Education Administrator for Saxe Middle School. “Vanessa Visners is an experienced Special Education professional and ideally qualified for her leadership role at Saxe,” said Dr. Luizzi. “We are extremely fortunate to have Vanessa joining our district.” In making the announcement, Dr. Luizzi thanked the teachers, administrators, and cabinet members for their excellent work as the interview committee, which was comprised of 14 people overall.


In her new position, Ms. Visners is responsible for the delivery of special education programs and services for all 5th-8th grade students with disabilities at Saxe Middle School, as well as the design and development of these programs. She will communicate with parents and staff members regarding evaluation, programming, placement, services and rights of students with disabilities and coordinate all related special education compliance issues. She will also assist with the recruitment, selection, and evaluation of special education teachers and related services staff. Ms. Visners brings an extensive career in special education and school administration to her new position in New Canaan.


She is currently Supervisor of Special Services for Easton Public Schools, where she supervises a 35-plus member staff (preK-8). She also evaluates all certified special education staff, chairs PPT meetings for grades preK-8, and finalizes IEPs. Prior to that, she worked as an IEP Compliance Teacher in the Stamford Public Schools where she facilitated PPT meetings and scheduled PPTs for 400 students across three schools, including elementary, K-8, and high school. Ms. Visners was an Acting Principal at P.S. 108, District 11, in the Bronx, NY, supervising 610 K-5 students and evaluating a staff of 65 in a “Well Developed” NYC Public School.


For a number of years, she served as Assistant Principal at P.S. 108, overseeing Special Education and related services, IEPs, referrals, and 504 Teams. She was also a Special Education Teacher at P.S. 108, supervising 8 multi-disabled children and 1 educational assistant, and she taught 4th Grade Math Enrichment and 5th Grade ELA Test Sophistication there, as well. Ms. Visners’ other teaching experience includes serving as Kindergarten Special Education Teacher at P.S. 87, District 11, in the Bronx, NY, Sixth Grade Special Education Teacher at P.S./M.S. 194 in the Bronx, NY, Sixth Grade Learning Center Teacher at Wilson Middle School in Natick, MA, and Resource Room Teacher at Westover Magnet Elementary School in Stamford, CT.


Ms. Visners received her B.A. from the College of Holy Cross, her M.S. from Mercy College, and her Ed.M. in Policy, Planning and Administration from Boston University. She was a MetLife Fellow in the Teachers Network Leadership Institute and an Adjunct Instructor at Mercy College.
