Saxe Students Celebrate Promotion Ceremony

Saxe Middle School: 8th Grade Promotion Ceremony

Saxe Promotion Saxe Middle School held its “8th Grade Promotion Ceremony” inside a packed New Canaan High School gymnasium on June 21, 2017. The celebratory event, in which 372 Saxe 8th Graders were promoted, began with students filing into their seats to the musical strains of “Pomp and Circumstance” and reciting the Pledge of Allegiance led by fellow students Valentina Zamora and Edmond DeClue.

Saxe Assistant Principal Steven Bedard then offered welcoming remarks: “As your administrator for the past two years, I have had the pleasure of getting to know you on a personal level. And I am so very proud of you and all you’ve accomplished both as individuals and as a collective group,” said Mr. Bedard. “This class is filled with kindness, generosity, artistic ability, athletic talent, intellectual curiosity and a zest for life.” After offering several thoughtful words of advice, he added: “On behalf of everyone here, I congratulate you, the class of 2017, and wish you nothing but the best. Have fun at the high school andmake sure you enjoy every moment.”

Certificate Students’ Perspectives were presented by 8th graders Camryn Sung and Christopher Talamo, followed by a musical interlude featuring the Saxe 8th Grade Choir performing “Season of Love.” And then the happy moment arrived, as students were presented their Certificates of Completion by Mr. Bedard and Saxe Principal Greg Macedo.

In the closing event, the Transfer Ceremony, the promoted class was officially recognized by its new name for the first time. “Welcome New Canaan High School Class of 2021,” said NCHS Principal Bill Egan, who, the day before, had participated in the NCHS senior class graduation. “I think I have the best job in America. How often is it you have a job where you get to say goodbye to the class of 2017 one evening and welcome the class of 2021 the next morning.  At New Canaan High School, you will be challenged to be your best in the academics, athletics and the arts.  But above all else you will be loved. I look forward to getting to know each and everyone one of you. Welcome New Canaan High School class of 2021.”

Following the ceremony, the audience was invited to enjoy refreshments presented by the Saxe PTC.
