District Wins Two State Communications Awards
District Budget Book and Website Win State Communications Awards
The Connecticut Association of Boards of Education (CABE) has named the New Canaan Public Schools Board of Education (BOE) 2019-2020 Approved Budget Book and its Website (www.NCPS-k12.org) winners in this year’s Bonnie B. Carney Awards of Excellence for Educational Communications. New Canaan was recognized in the category of school districts with admissions between 2000 and 5000 students, and it was the only Fairfield County district to win two awards in this category.
The BOE 2019-2020 Budget Book consists of an itemized and comprehensive 114-page document produced by the district. It clearly communicates the district’s goals and objectives for the year and highlights how the resource plan furthers the mission and vision articulated in BOE goals. The budget book, which is replicated online, is used by the Board of Education, the community, and the Town of New Canaan’s funding bodies throughout the budget season and school year. The district team responsible for assembling the book includes Dr. Jo-Ann Keating, Director of Finance and Operations, Tracy Haberman, Budget Director, and Cheryl Stolba, Director of Finance and Operations Administrative Assistant.
New Canaan Public Schools launched a new website template in June 2019, on all the school homepages and at www.ncps-k12.org, designed to give visitors an enhanced user experience that is engaging and easy to navigate. The district team includes Mike Horyczun, Director of Communications (District), the individual school web content managers Lisa Jarosik (Saxe), Martha Andronaco (East), Stefanie Sommerville (West), Ronna Van Veghel (South), and Matt Salvestrini, Director of Digital Learning.
“We believe deeply in the value of strong partnerships with our community and town bodies, and a vital dimension of that partnership is clear and accessible communication with all stakeholders,” said Superintendent of Schools, Dr. Bryan Luizzi. “Towards that end, we work tirelessly to develop and implement clear communications channels, and it is gratifying to be recognized by CABE as among the best in the state in that regard. Both our website and our budget book enhance the trusting relationships we have with our community, and we’re proud CABE has recognized our programs of excellence with these awards.”
“One of CABE’s continuing goals is to bring recognition to the talented staff members who created these outstanding winning entries, as well as to your entire district,” said Lisa Steiner, CABE’s Senior Staff Associate for Professional Development and Communications, in the announcement letter.
Winning districts were showcased at the 2019 CABE/CAPSS Convention held earlier this month in Hartford, CT. A member of CABE’s Board of Directors or Senior Staff will make an official presentation to the district in a forthcoming BOE meeting in New Canaan.
