    Dear Parents/Guardians,

Welcome back to the 2021-2022 school year! I hope everyone is having a great summer and staying healthy and safe. We are excited for the new school year and we look forward to providing nutritious and delicious food to everyone!

As a reminder, our Food Service Managers at each school have Covid-19 training Certificates through the ServSafe food handler training program.  This training provided managers with the information needed to safely prepare and serve meals to our students and staff.  In response to the health and safety guidelines, the food service staff will wear all appropriate PPE during work inside the schools.  Cafeteria staff will wrap, seal and hand food to the students at all schools.

There is no increase in the price for a school lunch.  Elementary Hot and Cold Lunches are $3.50 and Middle and High School Hot Lunches are $4.00. All schools will offer a variety of menu items.

    Elementary Schools

At the elementary schools, hot and cold lunch meals continue to include whole fruit, vegetables, whole grains, and choice of milk, small juice or small water.  Hot and cold lunch options will be available daily. Teachers will take daily lunch counts for the elementary students in their classrooms. The school will communicate these counts to the cafeteria staff, and they will prepare and maintain food in accordance with ServSafe standards and guidelines. There will be three types of cold lunches- Sandwich Lunch, Bagel Lunch and Sunbutter & Jelly Lunch. Beverage options are- 2% milk, Low- Fat Chocolate milk, water, 4 oz. orange juice. We ask that you review the menu with your child at least one day before to expedite the ordering process.  The cafeteria will:

    • have social distancing signage on the floor,
    • have hand sanitizing stations throughout the cafeteria.

Students can remove their masks once seated; however, they must put it back on prior to leaving their seat.

    Saxe Middle School

All students will eat lunch in either the cafeteria or the auxiliary gym as assigned by the school administration.  If a student brings lunch from home, they will go directly to their assigned table.  Students that purchase lunch will get their food in the servery.  Both auxiliary gyms will have kiosks offering grab & go food. The cafeteria and auxiliary gym will:

    • have social distancing signage on the floor,
    • have hand sanitizing stations at several locations.

Students can remove their masks once seated; however, they must put it back on prior to leaving their seat.

    New Canaan High School

All students will eat lunch in either the cafeteria, outdoor spaces or other areas as designated by the school administration.  Students that purchase lunch will get their food in the servery.  The cafeteria will:

    • have social distancing signage on the floor,
    • have hand sanitizing stations at several locations where students eat.

Students can remove their masks once seated; however, they must put it back on prior to leaving their seat.

    Point of Sale System-

Our Point of Sale system Titan School Solutions is an all in one system. The Titan Family Portal is where parents will make an online payment to their children’s cafeteria meal accounts, remotely monitor their children’s accounts, set up automatic recurring payments, set up low balance e-mail message alerts and submit an online application for the free and/or reduced meals program.

There is a fee of $2.60 per transaction.  Each transaction can be for either one child or multiple children within the same family. Please note that all balances from last year were rolled over to Titan.

    Paying for lunch –

In the Middle and High Schools, students will use student ID cards to scan and go at the checkout registers. Students will receive their student ID cards from their schools. They will pay for lunch by scanning their card under the barcode scanner at the checkout registers.

If students need a replacement card, they can get a new one from the main office. We suggest that they keep their cards in a safe place such as their book bags so they are not misplaced.

Elementary students will not use a student ID or lunch card. They will pay for their lunch by giving their name to the Cafeteria Manager at the checkout register. Our Cafeteria Managers will have a printed homeroom class sheet with the student names, pictures and bar codes. They will use this to scan the specific bar code to match the student.

Parents of students with allergies, please email me at michelle.santelli@ncps-k12.org  to schedule a meeting. We will work together to develop a plan that will enable your child to participate in the school lunch program.
