At New Canaan High School Library, we discourage learners from using online citation generators, such as Easybib or Google Docs add-ons, to create Works Cited lists. There are several reasons for this:

• Building citations from scratch helps learners evaluate each source they use
• Building a works cited list helps learners reflect upon the body of evidence they are referencing
• In spite of all the hype about artificial intelligence, humans are smarter than machines
• Students who master this process are more likely to successfully adapt to college level research
