NCHS Special Education - Mrs. Jacqueline Hauge
THE LEARNING CENTER:
The Learning Center class at New Canaan High School is designed to develop, strengthen, and improve skills for positive academic performance and achievement. Through content area course work (e.g., textbooks for reading activities, assigned papers for writing activities, practice of oral reports for English class,) pre- and post- teaching, learning strategies are taught. These strategies focus on comprehension and memory skills, organizational and study skills, test taking, and the enhancements of written and oral expression. The student is taught to apply the newly learned strategies to classroom activities and assignments. Self-advocacy skills and transitional planning are also part of the instructional program. I will also consult and collaborate with teachers to develop the use of strategies and techniques in the classroom. Student progress is monitored and reviewed throughout the year according to his or her IEP (Individual Educational Program).
