  • WRITING ACROSS THE DISCIPLINES

    Grade: 9-12

    Duration: 2 Semesters

    Prerequisite:  IEP Placement

    Credit: 0.5 per semester

    Classes meet daily on a credit/no credit basis.  Students are identified through the planning and placement team process.  The class is intended to prepare students for lifelong learning in written expression skills as they apply across the various disciplines.  It follows best practices in developing adolescent writing skills such as generating ideas, developing and clarifying ideas, proofreading, editing and revising in the following areas of instruction: 

    ·       Open ended responses

    ·       Document based essays   

    ·       Response to literature

    ·       Essay writing

    ·       Research based writing

    ·       Science based writing (CAPT labs)

     

    READING ACROSS THE DISCIPLINES

    Grade: 9-12

    Duration: 2 Semesters

    Prerequisite:  IEP Placement

    Classes meet daily on a credit/no credit basis.  Students are identified through the planning and placement team process.  The class is intended to prepare students for lifelong learning in literacy skills.  It follows best practices based on research in developing adolescent fluency and application of reading strategies to build comprehension. Instruction will be based on student interaction with text in the following areas:

    ·       Fiction/Nonfiction

    ·       Textbook based reading

    ·       Document based reading

    ·       Reading research based text
