Students can meet graduation standard for research and writing in this course.

This course is intended to provide an in depth study of our American literary heritage over the course of two semesters while meeting the AP goals of rhetorical analysis. Students will study rhetorical models and apply different strategies for argumentative writing. Students will cover some of the same content as the American Literature course, but paired with additional non-fiction readings that serve as cultural and historical supplements.

Readings will include authors listed for American Literature with additional non-fiction authors and more lengthy selections. Students will have nightly homework. All students will write a formal, fully documented research paper with sources, citations and bibliography.  Students must take the AP exam in May to receive the weighted grade for this course.
