Students in grades 6-8 receive 1 quarter of Health Education (2 classes per 6 day rotation). Health Education is taught using a skills-based approach. These research based skills that are embedded within the National Health Education Standards aim to produce health literate students capable of making informed decisions to lead a healthy lifestyle. The skills are as follows:
- Analyzing Influences
- Accessing Information
- Interpersonal Communication
- Decision Making
- Goal Setting
- Self Management
We are committed to provide a quality Health Education experience for all students with engaging lessons and authentic assessments that challenge students to think at a higher level. We are excited for them to learn and demonstrate these skills effectively that will enable them to enhance their overall health and wellness.
During health education class we will be utilizing a variety of assessment strategies that are designed to motivate, evaluate, and measure student achievement. In addition, these assessments will assist in the learning process. Within our curriculum there are several authentic assessment strategies that utilize near-to-real life situations to evaluate whether students can demonstrate what they have learned into positive behavior and action.
