Students can meet graduation standard for research and writing in this course.This course presents a broad view of the American experience, focusing on post- Reconstruction America. A variety of political, social, and economic topics are covered including: the industrialization of America, the movement into Progressive reform, the United States as a growing global power, the social changes involved as America modernized and, today, remains a leader in the world.
A variety of activities will be employed to develop the skills and concepts relevant to American history. Readings from the text and supplementary materials, especially primary sources, are woven throughout the course.
Writing, research, and document inquiry are integral to the course. Students work on these skills through a broad range of papers, group and individual projects, presentations and debates.
