    Exploring America’s culture, history, and identity through comparing classic and contemporary literature, this course will be a  critical examination of our social norms.  The literature will challenge students with its richness of language and depth and complexity of controversial themes. Juniors will continue to refine their skills in reader response, literary analysis, and creative and personal writing. Hallmarks of junior writing assignments include a formal research paper as well as experiential assignments.

    Required reading for all Junior English courses: The Adventures of Huckleberry Finn, The Great Gatsby. Reserved for all Junior English courses: The Things They Carried, The Scarlet Letter, Death of a Salesman, A Streetcar Named Desire, The Crucible, Friday Night Lights, Song of  Solomon, Their Eyes Were Watching God
