Everywhere you turn graphic visuals speak to you – on the web, TV and in print. This course explores how today’s digital artists use technology to be creative while communicating information.

This class teaches students how to be creative in their approach to technology while creating good design. Computer programs Adobe InDesign and Photoshop are used to design logos, posters, layouts and product packaging. Students learn the principles of design, typography, layout and how to use them effectively to communicate. The class is project-driven, and each project builds upon the last. Ideas are formed, designs are sketched and projects are ultimately created on the computer, printed and assembled.

Students will also explore multimedia design and how to make graphics come to life. Adobe Flash is used to combine personal graphics and sound to create animation for websites.

Students will maintain a portfolio of their work, including initial sketches, layouts and final designs. The course may be taken repeatedly for advanced study.

Software: Adobe InDesign, Photoshop & Flash
