    Performance Opportunity for NCPS Students

Student Recital Series at the New Canaan Inn

73 Oenoke Ridge, New Canaan, CT

    Recital dates TBA!

Are you a NCPS student in Grades K-12?  Do you play an instrument or sing?  Would you like a chance to perform in front of a warm and supportive  audience? You can play solo or with a group. If you are a pianist, the New Canaan Inn has a beautiful baby grand piano that they tune regularly.  This is the 10thyear of our Student Recital Series!

Each recital has space for approximately 15-20 different selections at 5 minutes each (or less).  Depending on how many students are signed up, you may be able to play more than one piece, if time allows.   We need to end by 4:45.

It’s easy to sign up!  Contact a music teacher below to sign up or contact if you have any questions.

Mrs. Rosen (Music Teacher at Saxe) janet.rosen@ncps-k12.org

Mr. Zhou (Music Teacher at East Elementary) barry.zhou@ncps-k12.org

Include the following information when you sign up:

Student first and last names, Grade, instrument played and name of song, and approximate length.

    What should I play?

Play something that is well prepared.  It can be a classical piece or Pop tune.  It does not have to be memorized.

    What should I wear?

             Nice school clothes.

What do I need to bring?

Bring your instrument and music. If you are playing or singing with an accompaniment CD or mp3, etc, bring it with you.  There is a CD player and docking station for an iPhone to play your accompaniment.  Folding music stands will be provided.

Can I invite family and friends?

Where is the New Canaan Inn?

    73 Oenoke Ridge

Directions: Traveling up Oenoke Ridge from town, the road makes a sharp curve to the right.  Just beyond that on the right and immediately before St. Mark’s Episcopal Church is the driveway for New Canaan Inn- this driveway is also shared with St. Mark’s.   There is also a small white sign (easy to miss).

Annual Holiday Concert at New Canaan Library

This fun concert  is TBA in the New Canaan Library's Lamb Room. It is open to Saxe instrumental students. Rehearsals will take place after school.  Gently used and new books will be collected and donated to "Filling in the Blanks", a local organization who distributes the books to needy children in our area.  See Mrs. Rosen to sign up or for more info!

    Mission, Goals, and Expectations

The Saxe Middle School Band is a wonderful, enriching 21st Century educational program that enables a child to learn, grow, and have fun developing life-long essential skills. These skills include patience, perseverance, practice, organization, and concentration (so important to develop in today’s culture).

As a result of participating successfully-working alone, and with others as a band “team”, a student will achieve the intrinsic reward of a high level of self-esteem having learned to play a musical instrument and read music.

Our curriculum, imparted by highly experienced, professionally active, and practicing teachers, combines traditional proven methodology, music of various styles and genres, and interactive technologies including SmartMusic , Smart Boards, and more.

Students create, perform, respond, and make connections with so many areas and we have a whole lot of fun in the process!

When your child practices and performs on an instrument or sings, you see an amazing demonstration of higher order thinking in order to solve complex problems (interpreting music on a page i.e. notes, rhythms, dynamics, tempo, form, etc) or in creating a product anew (music arranging, composing and improvising). Evidence of this will be constantly demonstrated through their practice and study at home, and in their various performances. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=R0JKCYZ8hng&feature=youtu.be
