A few reminders regarding upcoming State testing for tenth and eleventh graders that will impact all students as NCHS has adjusted schedules on March 30 and April 5, 2017.
On the afternoon of March 30, sophomores will take the CAPT Science exam. NCHS will run a special schedule with shortened classes meeting for all students from 7:30-11:30 AM. Tenth grade students will then be given time to eat lunch before reporting to their testing locations at 12: 00PM. Students will complete the assessment through 2:05PM. All students not scheduled to take the exam (ninth, eleventh and twelfth graders) may leave school at the time of the 11:30 dismissal. Buses, however, will continue to run only at 2:05, the scheduled school dismissal time. The schedule for the day is as follows:
Thursday, March 30th (Modified Day F)
Special Schedule for SCIENCE CAPT Testing
Period 4 7:30 – 8:14 AM
Period 1 8:19 – 9:02 AM
Period 2 9:07 – 9:52 AM (includes Announcements)
Period 7 9:57 – 10:41 AM
Period 8 10:46 – 11:30 AM
Lunch will be available for 10th Grade students from 11:30 AM – 12:00 PM
Students will then report to their assigned testing locations
For the first time on CAPT, the State will utilize online technology in place of traditional paper–and-pencil for the assessment, and as previously notified, we will utilize student devices to maximize testing ability, minimize long-term impact on instruction, and enable students to use the device they are most comfortable with. In order to ensure test security, a secure browser must be utilized. Members from our information technology department are visiting sophomore English classrooms to assist students with installing the browser on their devices. As previously notified, if you have questions or do not want the secure browser loaded onto your child’s device, please contact Larry Sullivan, so he can arrange to have a school device available for your child on the day of testing. Once this has been installed, students should maintain the browser on their devices until they have completed testing, when tech staff will also guide students to uninstall the browser.
The eleventh grade Connecticut State-mandated assessment is the SAT in the areas of language arts (reading and writing) and mathematics. The required date for testing of all 11th graders is the morning of Wednesday, April 5, 2017 with make up dates of April 25 and 26, 2017 for those who miss testing due to illness. Students in grade 9, 10 and 12 are not expected to attend before the start of class at 12:24.
The adjusted schedule for all students on April 5 follows:
Wednesday, April 5th (Modified Day B)
Special Schedule for SAT
Testing for 11th Graders 7:30-11:50
Period 5 12:24 – 1:12 PM
Period 6 1:19 – 2:05 PM
The State and individual districts remain accountable for achieving a federally established guideline of 95% participation the SAT and CAPT. As these are State-mandated assessments, all 10th and 11th grade students are expected to take the exam. Please do all that you can to ensure your child is present and on time for the assessment.
To protect the integrity of the testing environment on both days, students not testing who are on campus during tests should report to the cafeteria or library if they are not working directly with a teacher. On March 30, it will also be important that students not testing be off our wireless network so that it can sustain the more than 300 sophomores testing. Seniors participating in the Senior Internship Program (SIP) will be working in the Wagner Room that afternoon.
Thank you. Please contact Larry Sullivan (email@example.com or 203-594-4677 with any questions or concerns.
