I hope the week ahead brings health and warmer weather for all!
The generous support of the PTC Enrichment program brought the Stamford Nature Center to East School last week to present to first graders about Native Americans. This in-school “field trip” was held in the East science lab. It provided first graders with hands-on opportunities to touch, explore, and study various artifacts and tools from the Woodland Native American culture, demonstrating how these groups made use of nature – specifically, plants, animals, and stone – around them. This was a terrific connection to the first grade social studies curriculum and our students were very knowledgeable as they responded to questions posed by the presenters and made connections to all that they have been learning back in the classroom.
A Few Reminders
- Grade 2 students will take the OLSAT assessment the week of April 3rd; your effort to have your second grader arrive on time throughout the week is appreciated and will ensure a smoother testing schedule for your child.
- We hope to see many of you at Opening Night of the East School Book Fair this Monday, March 27th! This is a wonderful opportunity for children to pick out some new titles as they continue to grow as readers. From 5:30-7:00PM on Monday, the Book Fair will be open to families – come join me for a read-aloud of one of the book fair’s new selections at 6:15PM. Hope to see you there!
- Please note that if you plan to send along insights regarding next year’s placement for your child (the learning environment that fosters your child’s growth, peer connections we might not be aware of, etc.), all placement communication / letters must be received by Friday, April 7th.
- April vacation will be held the week of April 10th; school will resume on April 17th. Think spring!
Have a great week!
